This excursion was easily our favorite Alaska experience. The Sawyer glacier was spectacular, making the Glacier Bay experience seem anticlimactic. Perhaps it was the tremendous calving activity, or just being close up, or the hundreds of seals on ice floes. The giant iceberg rising from the deep, rolling over and sending long waves rolling across the fjord was a great finish! Tracy arm was beautiful, calm, with wisps of fog and green water, and a feeling of solitude. The tour guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and easily approachable due to the small group.
This shore excursion was the highlight of our Alaska trip! The buffet was as good as promised. They did a really nice job of circling the boat around the whales (and seals) to make sure the photo opportunities were from the right direction given the angle of the sun at the time. The guides who did the talking were very knowledgeable. And they provided lots of really good binoculars (one for every two passengers) – I wear glasses so I usually have a hard time getting binoculars properly focused, and theirs worked great with very little adjustment. I also appreciated that even though they don’t know their route ahead of time, they marked it on a map on the wall as we went, so people who were interested could look at it. The boat is very stable – the water was calm but I think even on a choppy day it would have felt as smooth as a lake. Well organized, right on time, good transportation.
Great tour from beginning to end. We saw several different humpback whales, a huge group of porpoise that swam in the wake of the catamaran, and many sea lions, swimming and hauled out on a buoy. The crew were very friendly and highly knowledgeable about the whales and other wildlife. The captain did everything to make sure we saw as many whales as possible. The catamaran was clean and comfortable, and had two spacious outside viewing decks. The food was very healthy and very good. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend the evening.
We saw several whales from a distance but the captain had us all looking out and we spotted two adults and a baby being active. We were able to get relatively close and watch them splash around, surface, and one even came up breach! What a great treat it was to experience the whales! We also saw seals up close as we cruised slowly by them laying on the beach. Several swam around by the boat! The Buffet was delicious, and plenty of food for seconds! I highly recommend this tour! I know that we got lucky to see the whale breach, but if you don’t go you won’t know!
From the moment our driver picked us up in downtown Juneau until she returned us hours later, we thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. All the details were well planned and our captain was determined to find whales for us to watch. Besides humpbacks, we saw seals, sea lions, and eagles. Binoculars were provided for those without. The lunch at Orca Point was the best salmon I had the entire Alaska trip, and the island setting was beautiful. We were worn out by the time we returned to the ship but very glad we had chosen this trip.
We were surprised by how much we enjoyed learning about all the wildlife in addition to the whales. The staff at the Orca Point Lodge provided a great meal and really warm service. After lunch, my husband and I watched the many hummingbirds while our two boys looked for shells and skipped rocks on the beach. It’s a great tour for families!
The salmon bake lunch at the Orca Point Lodge was delicious and the staff was hospitable and attentive. We also learned a lot from the naturalist who did the marine life touch pool. Then we went whale watching and were not disappointed. We saw at least 5 humpback whales that were visible for more than 15 minutes! Our on-board naturalist was very informative and helpful. We also went on to see sea lions, seals and birds. A very worthwhile trip that we highly recommend.
We just completed our 4th tour with Allen Marine in Juneau. Never disappointed. This one was the best ever. We saw dozens of humpbacks, including a baby. The captain shut off the boat’s engines and about half a dozen whales played and fed all around the boat for half an hour. It was awesome. Plenty of room to see and take pictures. The naturist and other crew were awesome and friendly. They were as excited about seeing the whales as the guests were. We had great views of bald eagles and stellar sea lions as well. The scenery is beautiful and we had great views of several glaciers in the area. Awesome experience well worth every penny!
This was exactly the whale watch tour we were hoping for. The room to view and photograph the Humpback whales, sea lions, eagles was excellent! It was the best whale watching I have ever done and we have been on many tours like it around the world!
I would have to say that out of all the excursions we went on in Alaska, this one was our favorite by far. We had a whale jump up right next to our catamaran, the tour guide said he was showing off for us. The weather was beautiful and the scenery was absolutely breath taking. Whales were everywhere and the sea lions were noisy. With the sun starting to set in the west and the steam from the whales’ breath in the distance along with the sea lions settling in for the evening … it will be an ever-lasting picture you will never forget. This tour is a must see for all ages. I would do this one again in a minute!
