Fishing for the largest flat fish in the world, the Pacific halibut, is the experience many anglers dream of when planning an Alaska vacation. Unlike many other Alaska destinations, Ketchikan’s fishing is protected by hundreds of islands, offering a number of sheltered fishing grounds.
You will begin your adventure at the Alaska Fish House, where your guide will be waiting to escort you to our private marina. Your day will start by getting outfitted in full rain gear, wool socks, boots, hat, and gloves. Meanwhile, our dock staff will complete the necessary paperwork to issue each angler a one-day Alaska fishing license ($25 cash). Within 15 minutes you will board one of our 24 ft. cabin cruisers and enjoy a scenic ride to the fishing grounds.
Experience the thrill of dropping a line and jigging for halibut as well as other bottom fish at depths of 100–300 ft. Your guide will coach you on the process of reeling your catch in and even share a few of his secret techniques. A snack box featuring a smoked salmon spread with garlic herb crackers, a fruit cup, a chocolate chip oatmeal craisin cookie, and bottled water will be provided.
After four to five hours of fishing, you will return to our marina where your guide will hang your catch for photo opportunities. If you wish to ship any of your fresh fish home, our dock staff will assist you in filling out a quick form to ensure that your catch is packaged, flash frozen, and delivered to your front door on the day of your choosing.
