FANTASTIC! This for us was our trip highlight. The helicopter is not just transportation up the glacier, it is awesome. Landing at the camp was beyond words. We happen to have had very unusual great weather, sunshine, 70’s. Shirt sleeve day! The photos we have will remind us for a lifetime of this great experience. We were on 1000′ of ice covered by 17′ of snow. We needed boots and we sunk in the snow over our ankles. Just do it if you can afford it.
This was the highlight of my cruise excursion. After the awesome helicopter ride which was just beautiful (our cruise had sun the entire week), so we able to see the beauty of Alaska. The mountains so mighty are mind blowing. When we landed, we were greeted by the most precious dogs who just wanted to do what they love to do. Our guide was most pleasant and explained the process to us and the love and respect he has for his dogs. The ride was exciting, but more important; it allowed us time to go to a place when life was a bit more simple and fun, and to realize this is a practice that people still use today. I highly recommend this tour. It was just awesome!
An incredible way to see many glaciers at the same time! This was my first time in a helicopter and I felt very safe. Our pilot, Kevin, was knowledgeable and kept us informed as to where we were and what we were doing. At the same time, he let the breath taking scenery speak for itself. Landing on two different glaciers gave you beautiful views and two different perspectives. At the end of the trip, he showed us on a map exactly where our flight path had taken us. Wonderful adventure!
This was an extraordinary experience. We flew to the top of the world. We appeared to be the only people ever to land on the glacier the pilot selected, then we flew to the source of the icefields themselves. We stood on 5000′ of snow and ice with glorious views as far as the eye could see – about 25 miles. We recommend this excursion to anyone who wants to escape the crowds and experience the glaciers and icefields in depth.
It was exciting from the lift off and got even better as we headed up to the glaciers. There were just the 5 of us and our pilot, Ben. It was a gorgeous day and Ben’s newly discovered landing spots had awesome views, snow to play in, and the excitement of being close to a cliff’s edge. This pilot was so cool and down-to-earth. He shared stories and experiences, along with the glacier history and other interesting information; making this the best helicopter ride and experience I ever had.
This excursion was incredible and the highlight of our trip. We took our two teenagers and they too felt like it was the best excursion we took. The guides provided all the equipment and taught us how to hike on the glacier. There is nothing like actually walking on 1300′ of ice. The textures, colors, sounds – all amazing. The helicopter ride too was fun. We would strongly recommend this excursion. It is worth every cent!
What a way to start out on our Alaskan Cruise adventure! It was our first helicopter ride, and it was as much fun as being on the glacier itself. The guides were very knowledgeable and helpful, snapping a number of photos of my family with the glacier in the background. I brought an empty plastic bottle and snagged some glacier water! Ice cold and as pure tasting as water could be! My only complaint was that the time went by too fast. That does not mean that it wasn’t worth the money. It’s just that, if we ever go back to Alaska, we will pay a bit more to have even more time on the Glacier.
We loved this excursion. The views from the helicopter were wonderful, but best of all was the opportunity to land on and then hike around the glacier. All needed safety equipment was provided. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and safety conscious. Excellent photo opportunities. We stood on the amazing blue ice! Pricy but worth it.
After reading some reviews, we had very high expectations that this excursion would be good. The trip was wonderful! What a difference seeing Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier from the small boat versus from a cruise ship. It takes about 2 hours to get to Tracy Arm from Juneau and that time was spent looking at scenery, spotting bald eagles and other wildlife. The naturalist, Alex, provided wonderful commentary. We got “up close and personal” with a gorgeous waterfall. At Sawyer Glacier, Captain Rusty took our boat (Katlian Express) through the ice floes, pushing ice out of the way, so we were so much nearer the glacier. It was amazing. We spent a long time at the glacier, saw calving, and marveled at all the seals and pups. Then we went to North Sawyer Glacier. We left Tracy Arm about 1:00 to head back to Juneau. We were served a picnic lunch – smoked turkey/pesto wrap that was so filling, chips, cookie, apple, and a bottle of water. It was more than enough! In addition, the gentlemen put out chocolate and fudge to sample and served smoked salmon samples some topped with Kelp pickles. This excursion was worth every penny!
We had the time of our life. I cannot say enough about this excursion. The wild life was spectacular! We saw it all on this excursion. I felt as though we were on a National Geographic tour. The captain spotted a pod of orcas and a bear on the coastline. I was able to get some amazing photos. The glaciers were breath taking, so beautiful. We also experienced seals giving birth on the floating icebergs. The crew was so fun, thoughtful, and full of information. The naturalist and service crew were always smiling and attentive to our needs. They also make a great “Glacier Blake Margarita”. The boat was well maintained and warm inside. I highly recommend this once of a life time adventure.
